Nature, for a change

Here's what the world around us looks like. Pretty cool if you ask me!

Attempt at a snowman

First you find the biggest "ice" ball you can. Then you pick it up and bring it to the top of the "ice" mountain.
And Viola! Snowman or would that be Iceman.

Pretty Girls

ANother SNow Day for us

The kids got to spend another day at home today. We of course went outside to enjoy the snow while it's still here. The city finally got around to plowing the cul-de-sac today and made a huge pile of snow in front of our house.
The kids also got to finish their tunnel they started yesterday.

They spent a lot of their time sledding down the snow mountain the plowers created.

What we did with our snow day

Of course Jeff had to shovel snow, then he used the truck to flatten some of the snow in the cul-de-sac because the city, for some unknown reason, didn't plow any of the cul-de-sacs in our neighbourhood. They did, however, plow a single lane through the rest of the neighborhood which helped.
The kids did their best to find some sledable snow, which was kinda hard 'cause it was fluffy snow. Lizzy loves the snow and was running all over the place. Sydney dug a hole in the snow bank and made herself a little home. Jared's favorite was just diving into it and seeing how far he sunk in.

Snow day - No ScHooL

We woke up this morning to almost a foot of snow. It seems that all the schools from Central and Southern Indiana were closed. Which means we got to spend some time with our kids today.

Happy Lunar New Year

I guess it's more well known as Chinese New Year. We decided to celebrate the ending of the Year of the Rat and welcomed in the Year of the Ox with a few decorations and some traditional Chinese things. All this to help the kids learn about other cultures. We have red packets which are given from adults to kids as good luck and honorability.
We have an orange basket filled with oranges and tangerines - oranges for wealth, tangerines for good luck.
We have the ox ushering out the rat.
It is the year 4706 on the Chinese calendar.
The kids also ate their dinner with chopsticks - I was impressed with their skill!
I also filled a Chinese take out box with candy:-)

Jared's Field Trip to the Hospital

Jared's class went on a field trip to the Hospital where Jeff was working today. Jared got to see where his Dad works and some of the areas within the hospital. They toured the Pharmacy, Pediatrics, Neuro, Respiratory, the ER, the ambulance bays and the cafeteria. They got to try a whole bunch of different fruits chosen by the Hospital chef. I think the one they had the most fun with was the Kumquat, it was fun watching all the sour faces. Jared said his favorite part was the play area in pediatrics.

Lizzy's Christmas present - 12/20/09

We bought Lizzy a new bed for her Christmas present. It was fun watching her play with it and then finally settle down and sleep in it.

Icicles

Jared and Sydney have amassed quite the collection. Unfortunately, it's a collection of Icicles in our freezer. But it's fun to see their reactions everyday as the snow melts off of the roof and then freezes as it falls on the bush.

Jared's Basketball game

So today was Jared's day to be the rebound guy. Even with him getting some rebounds the Rockets beat us 34-16.

Our "Angels" making snow angels

So I gave in to the "but Mom ppplllleeeeaasse" speech this afternoon. The kids really wanted to go out and play in the snow, so we all dressed up real warm and stepped outside into the sub-zero degree weather. Here are the results of the Angel making. Jared's Snow Angel.Sydney's Snow Angel.

Wrestling in the snow

So it all started with "this is my sled...and...ended with O.K. you can have it".But the damage had already been done - they had powdery wet snow all over them.

But......baby it's cold outside

So, it's beyond cold here -7 for the low, add in the wind chill and we have a balmy -25! WaHOOOOOO. The best part about the cold - we had a 2 hour delay this morning for school. The kids woke up in a good mood (there was no pesky mom saying "It's time to get up.") and we had a little bit of playtime before we had to go. It just set the day of right! So I gotta say, for right now, bring it on - I'll take the cold any day!

Finally...some sledable snow!

The kids have been waiting for it to snow enough for us to go sledding and today it finally did!

Basketball Season

The holidays have come and gone and the kids are back in the full swing of school and sports.
Jared had his first Basketball game today. He is on the Celtics team at OCC. He did really well, and I know I'm biased. He did some moves that impressed me, like setting picks, making a basket, staying with his guy and all important keeping his hands up. He even tried a shot when the shot clock was almost out.
It was really kinda cool, he heard the ref say 2 seconds and he had the ball so he stopped where he was and took the shot. The ball went flying through the air, I was holding my breath as was everyone around me, the ball hit the backboard bounced into the net and then rimmed back out. We all let out our collective breaths with a loud ohhhhhhh. It was so close....maybe next time. We lost to the Pacers 14 - 12.
